Vintage Cocktails for New Year's Eve

Vodka Gimlet
Two parts vodka
Ice cubes
One part Rose's lime juice
1 teaspoon simple syrup
Orange slice

Place three ice cubes in a cocktail shaker.  Add ingredients, shake,
strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with orange slice.

The Sidecar
It has been said that this drink was named after an eccentric military man who used to arrive at Harry's New York Bar in Paris in the sidecar of of a chauffeur-driven motorcycle.

Ice cubes
One and half parts brandy
One part Cointreau
One part lemon juice (or more to taste)

Place 4 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Pour ingredients over
ice and mix well.  Strain in to glass.

French 75                                                       
Named after a WW1 French light field gun, known as the 75.This cocktail was also created at Harry's New York Bar in Paris
after the war.

One part dry gin
Two dashes of simple syrup
Chilled dry champagne
A twist of lemon

In a champagne flute pour gin and simple syrup.  Top off with
champagne and garnish with lemon twist.
